GIMP Outlined Text Tool

Post by flamethrower » Wed Nov 29, 2017 8:15 pm

I learned enough GIMP Python-Fu to make this, a plugin for GIMP.

Here is the script.
It goes in %UserProfile%\.gimp-2-8\plug-ins. This folder is created when you run GIMP for the first time. You can customize the path from Edit->Preferences.

Once installed, find it in the menu at Filters->Alpha to Logo->Text with Outline...

Here's a sample output:
Sample.png (5.1 KiB) Viewed 4518 times
The top is 16 pixel Arial in white with 1 pixel olive border.
The bottom is the same but with 2 pixel radius gaussian blur applied to the outline.

Here's what the interface looks like:
Interface.png (13.39 KiB) Viewed 4518 times
Set blur radius to zero for no blur.

The text will go in the top left if you have no selection, or at the top-left of your selection, if you have one.
